The 2014 General Assembly of ECHA agreed that ECHA supports, regulates and guides the formation of a European Talent Support Network.
Margaret Sutherland (UK) PhD lectures in additional support for learning at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She is the Director of the Scottish Network for Able Pupils and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research and Development in Adult and Lifelong Learning. She has 33 years teaching experience in schools and higher education. She has written in the field of gifted education and is the author of a number of academic papers, chapters and books on the subject. Her book, Gifted and Talented in the Early Years has been translated into German. She is on the editorial board of the Korean Journal of Educational Policy. She speaks at conferences and has worked across the UK and with staff and students in Tanzania; Malawi; Korea; Virginia, USA; Slovenia; The Netherlands; Poland, Hungary, Saudi Arabia and Denmark. She is an elected member of the General Committee of the European Council for High Ability.
Colm O’Reilly (IE) PhD is the Director of the Irish Centre for Talented Youth (CTYI) at Dublin City University. CTYI provides fast paced classes for academically talented students aged 6–16 years from all over Ireland and overseas. Currently the Centre caters for over 5000 students per annum and it is the only recognised teaching centre for gifted children in the Republic of Ireland. CTYI run over 120 academic courses annually for gifted students. Colm has worked in the area of gifted and talented education for the last 15 years, and has published articles and presented papers at numerous conferences around the world. He has experience in teacher training for gifted students around Ireland and is responsible for the implementation of many classes and initiatives for gifted children and teachers in Ireland. Colm is a member of the Academic Advisory Board at the Center for Gifted Education at the College of William and Mary in Virginia and the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Csilla Fuszek (HU) worked for over 15 years as a teacher in primary, secondary and higher education. Since 2000 she has been focused and become specialized in the field of gifted and talented education. As a civil servant she worked for 7 years as a managing director of nationwide talent development programs aimed to promote equal opportunities to the disadvantaged strata of society. Between 2007 and 2011 she was the managing director of the Csányi Foundation, which is one of the biggest civil education foundations focusing on talent support in Hungary. She has been a lecturer at Eötvös Loránd University since 2008. Since 2009 she has been working for the Association of Hungarian Talent Support Organizations on nationwide talent support projects supported by EU funds. Initially she was responsible for establishing international connections and for collecting best practices outside and inside Europe. From 2012 she is the founding director of the Budapest European Talent Centre (www.talentcentrebudapest.eu). She organized 3 major European talent support conferences in 2006, 2011 and 2014. Csilla Fuszek was elected as the Secretary of the Accreditation Committee at the first meeting of the Committee.
Christian Fischer (DE) PhD is full professor for Educational Sciences with a focus on School Research: Gifted Education and Individual Promotion at the University of Münster, Germany. He is academic director of the International Centre for the Study of Giftedness (ICBF) from the Universities of Münster, Osnabrück and Nijmegen (the Netherlands). He also is vice president of the European Council for High Ability (ECHA) and Program Director of the European Advanced Diploma in Educating the Gifted. He is member of the editorial board of the Austrian Journal for Gifted Education. He is involved in gifted education since 2001. His publications focus on gifted education, individual promotion, learning difficulties and self-regulated learning.
Lianne Hoogeveen (NL) is developmental psychologist and head of the Center for the Study of Giftedness (CBO) of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, board member of the ‘Internationales Centrum für Begabungsforschung (ICBF) (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany) and member of the Executive Committee of the European Council for High Ability (ECHA) as the Secretary of ECHA. She teaches at Radboud University and is a guest teacher in different other universities, in and outside the Netherlands. She is involved in post-academic education for psychologists and teachers and in individual counselling of gifted children, youngsters and adults from 1991. Lianne conducts scientific research on giftedness and education, and wrote a PhD-thesis on academic acceleration. Concerning research and education, she cooperates with colleagues of other universities, in- and outside the Netherlands. Lianne was elected as The President of the European Talent Centers Accreditation Committee at the first meeting of the committee.
In 1962 Prof. Dr. Mönks became a staff member of the Department of Developmental Psychology at the University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands), and in 1967 he became full professor of Developmental Psychology and head of the same department.
Professor Joan Freeman, PhD, the Founding President of ECHA, is a world expert in the lifetime development of gifts and talents. She is an elected Fellow of the British Psychological Society and holds their Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with the gifted and talented, among honours from elsewhere.
